Titanium dioxide industry will accelerate the progress of integration
in the first quarter of this year, the profitability of titanium dioxide industry fell to a historical low due to the sharp rise in the price of raw materials and other factors. More than 20% of small and medium-sized enterprises in the country are in the state of shutdown or intermittent shutdown, and some backbone enterprises are also reducing production. Except for the enterprises that produce sulphuric acid from pyrite or both phosphate fertilizer and phosphate chemical products, the enterprises that only produce anatase products have suffered losses across the board, and the profits of rutile products enterprises have shrunk significantly or have suffered losses. In the second quarter, the price of raw materials showed a downward trend. The titanium dioxide industry, struggling in difficulties, has finally turned around
the balance between supply and demand of titanium ore is surplus, and the price has fallen significantly.
in the past two years, the supply and demand relationship of titanium concentrate has gradually become unbalanced with the excessive expansion of titanium dioxide production capacity. In 2007, the output of titanium dioxide products in China was 1million tons. Except that 150000 ~ 170000 tons of titanium slag is used as raw material (about 200000 tons of imported titanium slag, about 70000 tons of domestic titanium slag, excluding high-grade titanium slag used in the chlorination process), the rest are all imported titanium concentrate as raw material. The demand for titanium concentrate is 2.3 million ~ 2.5 million tons. Major titanium ore importing countries have shifted from traditional Australia to India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and other countries. Among them, Vietnam has become China's largest source of imports
in recent years, the quality of imported titanium concentrate has declined, and the grade of TiO2 has decreased from 48% to less than 40%, and some have even decreased to 30%, which brings great difficulties to normal production. The tension test of the relationship between supply and demand is the most basic mechanical property of metal materials. The tension of the test method makes the price of titanium ore soar rapidly. From 500 ~ 600 yuan/ton a year ago to 1700 ~ 1800 yuan/ton in the second quarter of this year, the price rose by 1000 ~ 1200 yuan/ton. According to the actual grade, the titanium ore consumption per ton of titanium dioxide products is close to 3 tons, which is equivalent to a cost increase of 3000 ~ 3600 yuan/ton
since the second half of last year. The new production of titanium dioxide in China is far lower than expected, and the operating rate of enterprises is seriously insufficient, which fundamentally changes the supply and demand relationship of titanium ore, while the import volume of titanium ore continues to remain high. At the end of the second quarter of this year, although the price of titanium ore was still at a high level, with an average price of 1300 ~ 1500 yuan/ton, it has decreased by 200 ~ 300 yuan/ton compared with the previous period. From January to June this year, a total of 560000 tons of titanium ore were imported, which is equivalent to the level of the same period last year. The balance of supply and demand of titanium ore is slightly surplus, and the price will continue to decline
the price of sulfuric acid rose and fell back
sulfuric acid is another important raw material for China's titanium dioxide industry. About 3 ~ 4 tons of sulfuric acid are consumed per ton of titanium dioxide products (100%). At the beginning of this year, the sulfuric acid market continued to extend the momentum of the sharp rise in prices last year. From March to April, the price of sulfuric acid made from sulfur can be avoided to hit 1800 ~ 2000 yuan/ton, and the price of sulfuric acid made from pyrite and smelting flue gas is relatively low
similar to the titanium market, the market price of sulfuric acid in China also decreased significantly after May, and by the end of the second quarter, the market price decreased by 200 ~ 400 yuan/ton. There are many reasons for this. First, due to the Olympic Games, chemical enterprises in the surrounding areas of Beijing have limited production or production and transportation restrictions; Second, the production of chemical fertilizer industry, the main user of sulfuric acid during this period, was in the off-season; Third, the production limit or shutdown of titanium dioxide enterprises has led to a decline in the output of titanium dioxide and a decline in the demand for sulfuric acid
the price of ferrous sulfate, a by-product, has risen sharply.
ferrous sulfate, a bulk by-product of titanium dioxide produced by sulfuric acid method (using ilmenite as raw material), can be used to produce water purification agents and iron oxide pigments. The production of ferrous sulfate per ton of titanium dioxide is 3 ~ 4 tons. Two years ago, the price of ferrous sulfate was less than 100 yuan per ton. With the development of environmental protection and iron series pigment industry, the price of ferrous sulfate has soared, reaching 300 ~ 500 yuan/ton by the end of the second quarter of this year, and even 600 ~ 800 yuan/ton in some regions. To a considerable extent, this makes up for the loss of profits caused by the rise in the price of raw materials and energy in the production of titanium dioxide, which is difficult to design due to high temperature and low temperature resistance, and also affects the enthusiasm of titanium dioxide enterprises to use high titanium slag as the main raw material
the output of titanium dioxide and the demand for titanium ore will decline for the first time
after a 10-year continuous growth period since 1998, the national output of titanium dioxide is expected to fall below 900000 tons this year: affected by this, the demand for titanium ore will also decline correspondingly, and the relationship between supply and demand of titanium ore will reverse
under the background that the import volume remains at a high level, while the price of titanium ore continues to decline, suppliers are bound to make more efforts in improving and stabilizing quality, which is of positive significance to titanium dioxide enterprises
import volume continued to be high and export volume fell sharply
in the first half of this year, the national import volume of titanium dioxide basically maintained the same level as that of the same period of last year, with a total import of 131600 tons from January to June, an increase of 677 tons over the same period of last year. In the same period, China imported 560000 tons of titanium concentrate, only 7505 tons less than the same period last year
1 ~ 6 months. The export volume of titanium dioxide across the country continued the downturn pattern in the second half of last year. The export volume decreased by 31%, 57%, 56%, 54%, 53% and 58% year-on-year respectively. In the first half of the year, China exported 42000 tons of titanium dioxide, a year-on-year decrease of 52%
the price of titanium dioxide first rises and then falls
under the pressure of the overall rise in the prices of raw and auxiliary materials and energy, enterprises are forced to raise the price of titanium dioxide products. In the first half of the year, the product price after several rounds of price increases was 13000 ~ 14000 yuan/ton for anatase. Rutile type is 15500 ~ 16500 yuan/ton, but their manufacturing costs have reached 10000 yuan/ton and 14000 yuan/ton respectively, and they are still at or near the edge of loss. Since last year, titanium dioxide in the international market has experienced many price increases, but the price of imported products in the Chinese market has hardly changed. Two years ago, the price difference between domestic rutile sulfate products and imported products of the same type was about 5000 yuan/ton, but by the end of the second quarter of this year, it had narrowed to less than 2000 yuan/ton. Under the condition that the quality of domestic titanium dioxide products has not been substantially improved, it is very difficult to further improve its price
in the second quarter, the price of titanium dioxide products (mainly anatase) began to fall at the end of the second quarter due to the obvious price reduction of main raw materials, the increase of industrial operating rate and the increase of market pressure caused by the increase of output. In the southern region, it has fallen by more than 1000 yuan/ton
the speed of industrial restructuring and integration will be accelerated.
small and medium-sized enterprises do not have the scale of modern production economy, and they also lack products with market competitiveness. The situation of titanium dioxide enterprises in Guangdong, Guangxi and Panzhihua is particularly difficult. In addition, the severe environmental protection situation has forced some small and medium-sized enterprises to stop production, and more enterprises will gradually fade out of the titanium dioxide industry in the future. Affected by the downturn of the city in exploring a new development path of plastic granulator technology. In recent oneortwo years, new enterprises have been in a dilemma, and the progress of the project has been greatly affected, and some have been forced to dismount. At the same time, enterprises with relatively strong strength are waiting for opportunities to act and strive to benefit from the integration
since last year. The state has issued a series of restrictive policies for the "two high-tech and one capital" industries including titanium dioxide: the cancellation of export tax rebates, the prohibition of processing trade, and the inclusion in the catalogue of curbing low-level redundant construction, with the purpose of optimizing the industrial structure and limiting and eliminating backward production capacity. This will further accelerate the integration of China's titanium dioxide industry
